Daddy Hold On
Some songs are written.
Others arrive.
“Daddy Hold On” came from sitting with a feeling that wouldn’t leave. That moment when time feels thin, when love gets louder than logic, and when all the things you thought you’d have time to say suddenly feel urgent.
This is a country record at its core. Stripped down. Story first. I sing it myself, East Tennessee accent included, because anything else would’ve felt dishonest. This song didn’t need polish. It needed presence.
The story follows a son racing home, asking his mother to tell his father to hold on just a little longer. It’s not a literal retelling of my own relationship with my dad, but the emotion is real. When someone you love is slipping away, the details blur. What’s left is love, regret, and the ache of wanting more time, even when you know more time won’t fix everything.
Musically, this song leans into restraint. Space matters here. Silence matters. The weight sits in the pauses as much as the lyrics. There are no tricks, no rush to resolve the tension. Just a story allowed to breathe.
“Daddy Hold On” lives in that in-between space. Between love and regret. Between what was said and what never got the chance to be said. It’s for anyone who has stood at a bedside, driven too fast down a dark road, or whispered a prayer for just a little longer.
Thank you for listening and for holding space for this one.
